Milton Levi Smith was born July 17, 1895 in Lount Township, the son of Lewis and Margaret (Roulston) Smith.
At the time of the 1901 census, the family lived in Lount Township – but by the time of the 1911 census, the family was identified as living in Magnetawan.
In his Attestation papers signed February 7, 1916 in Parry Sound, Milton identified that he was living in Magnetawan and was a lumberman.
After the war, Milton married Martha Elford McFadden.
Milton died April 5, 1974 in Spence Twp.
In his Discharge Certificate, Milton was identified as having enlisted on February 7, 1916 in the 162nd at Parry Sound.
He was identified as having served in England and France and having been discharged March 24, 1919 as medically unfit.
Milton arrived in England on November 16, 1916 on the S.S. Caronia.
By month’s end he had transferred to the 2nd Pioneers.
From January to April 1918 he was hospitalized with an infectious disease.
In April of 1918 he was identified as being transferred to the CER Pool (Canadian Engineer Reinforcement Depot - centre from which reinforcements were allocated to existing engineering units).
He returned from France in January 1919 and was assigned to the MD2 (Military District 2 Central Ontario (Toronto)).
